My name is Mallory McElwain, and I started my journey at KOMAREK, Inc. in July 2020 as a Senior Accountant. In May 2022, I stepped into my current role as Accounting Manager. Since joining KOMAREK, I have had the opportunity to grow professionally while becoming more involved in the company’s financial and operational processes – and I have learned that there is a lot more to accounting than just numbers on a spreadsheet!
As Accounting Manager, I oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger activities, and month-end and year-end closing. I prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), manage account reconciliations and fixed assets, coordinate external audits, and work to maintain strong financial controls. In other words, I spend a lot of time making sure the numbers add up—and occasionally wondering why they don’t.
One of my favorite responsibilities is overseeing inventory. I have proudly taken on becoming an inventory guru (at least I think so) by assisting with managing inventory records, resolving discrepancies, and leading company-wide physical inventory counts. This role has given me a much greater appreciation for everything that goes into manufacturing and the many moving parts behind the scenes.
A big part of my role is finding ways to make things work more efficiently. I enjoy working with other departments to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and find solutions to everyday challenges. After all, if there is a way to make a process easier, I will probably find a way to put it into an Excel spreadsheet first.
Over the years, I have learned that accounting is about much more than numbers. It is about understanding the business, solving problems, communicating with people, and continuously looking for ways to improve. I have learned so much about manufacturing, inventory, and material processing during my time at KOMAREK—far more than I ever expected when I started!
Another one of the things I love most about working at KOMAREK is the people and flexibility. Everyone in the office is approachable, which creates a very comfortable and supportive work environment. I also appreciate having the flexibility to manage my responsibilities while being encouraged to bring new ideas and solutions to the table.
